During an emergency ‘uh oh, everyone’s mad’ livestream today, Diablo 4 community manager Adam Fletcher said that this week’s controversial patch, which heavily nerfed overall player damage output and survivability, is not something Blizzard plans to repeat.
“We want to acknowledge everyone’s feedback in regard to reducing player power,” said Fletcher. “We know it is bad. We know it is not fun … We also want to talk about what we were trying to achieve specifically with this patch and with the changes that players ended up seeing. Just days after Valve started reversing bans for those who used AMD’s Anti-Lag+ feature in Counter-Strike 2, players have discovered a reproducible method for triggering a VAC ban on your account: moving your mouse very, very fast.
As shared by YouTuber Water CS2 and others (and spotted by PCGamesN), several players have incurred the wrath of VAC by increasing their mouse DPI to 10,000+ (around 9,200 DPI higher than most people actually play at) and going wild with their camera. In the examples circulating online, all the player does is swing their camera around while shooting during the warmup phase. A few have managed to trigger a ban in just a single match, while this guy had to play for over an hour before VAC stepped in.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 hackers are losing it, man. Team Ricochet, the cadre of COD devs with the unenviable task of foiling the game’s many cheaters, has put out an update detailing a new bit of anti-cheat tech. It’s called Hallucinations and, well, it does exactly what its name suggests.
“Hallucinations place decoy characters within the game that can only be detected by cheaters that have been specifically flagged by [Team Ricochet’s] system,” reads the update. They can’t be seen by legitimate players, but “serve to disorient cheaters in a variety of ways”.
Essentially, these hallucinations are clones of someone else in the match, “mimicking their movement to trick a cheater into believing the character they see is a real-life player”. Even more cunning, the halluci…

An upcoming incremental strategy clicker is taking on the civilization-building theme in an interesting way: Knowing that you’re going to collapse, eventually, before starting over. Indie developer Ondrej Homola’s game Microcivilization has you ascending through tiers of difficulty by building progressively larger civilizations before you either choose to—or are forced to—ascend, gaining currency to spend on bonuses for future runs.
It sounds pretty standard for the incremental and/or idle genres birthed by the proliferation of clicker games last decade. What sets Microcivilization apart is that it’s packed with some really very pretty pixel art and particle effects that help the whole thing look pretty dang good while you’re tapping away.

We all know by now that Baldur’s Gate 3 is a huge game, but weeks after release I’m still surprised not just by how much good stuff I’ve seen, but how equally much I’ve missed. It speaks to Larian’s confidence in its breadth of stories that it’s so easy to choose dialogue or take routes that lock off entire chunks of the game, not least of which the stories of its six core companions.

One of the hotter demos out in this year’s Steam Next Fest is for Broken Arrow, a large-scale RTS set just about in right now, this moment, using cutting-edge military equipment and technology. It’s a setting often left to either less-realistic shooters or stodgy ultra-realistic but low fidelity wargames, but developer Steel Balalaika is giving it a convincing go that has me interested in the final product.
Broken Arrow is at its core a large-scale tactics game like the Wargame or Steel Division series, or recent RTS Warno, but whereas past games have focused on recently-gone or theoretical conflicts, Broken Arrow’s launching with factions based on modern United States and Russian forces. It’ll have more than 100 units per nation, with both land, air, and sea forces represented.

Alan Wake 2 will never “go gold,” an old-fashioned phrase that refers to the creation of a master disc for duplication. No discs will have been burnt when the survival horror game comes out on October 17: Even the console versions won’t get physical editions and “there are currently no plans to release Alan Wake 2 on disc.”
Remedy and Epic Games say that the digital-only release has allowed them to keep the price down: Alan Wake 2 will be $60 on consoles as opposed to the new $70 normal for big budget games, and on PC, it’ll be a pleasant $50.
